Career planning is essential for addressing future employment issues, relevant to every young person. The workshop was led by a social sciences teacher. A competition was also held within the municipality to select potential participants—young people who will participate in the mobility activities.
On April 18 of this year, an event titled 'Me in the World!' was held at Daugavpils Saskaņas Elementary School, organized by the Daugavpils City Youth Center 'Jaunība' in collaboration with the Daugavpils City Department of Education as part of the project 'Next – Young People Must Build Hope for Europe’s Future.' Project participants Nikola Kursīte (Daugavpils Technology High School-Lyceum) and Emīlija Sarkane (Daugavpils State Gymnasium) were also involved in implementing the activities. The event included representatives from the student councils of Daugavpils Saskaņas Elementary School, J. Rainis Daugavpils 6th Elementary School, Daugavpils Vienības Elementary School, and Daugavpils Stropi Elementary School-Development Center. The goal of the event was to raise awareness of the most in-demand skills in the 21st-century job market, encouraging youth civic engagement, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving. In groups, students completed various tasks that explored the most sought-after skills in the job market, where and how to express them, and how to develop and improve them during school years. Students concluded that continuous development and improvement are necessary—both in school and outside of it—by organizing events, participating in student council work, enhancing their abilities and skills through extracurricular education, and demonstrating their knowledge in the learning process.

Kicking off its local activities within the context of its participation in the “NEXT – Young NEETs shaping EXpectations for The future of Europe” project, the Malta Crafts Foundation visited the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts in Mosta and met with students following the journalism course. After an overview of the Foundation’s initiatives to promote and support the artisan sector, students were briefed about the various opportunities that the sector offers for those who are interesting in pursuing a creative career.
Within the context of Malta’s second participation in the European Artistic Crafts Days (EACD), various artisans around the Maltese islands held workshops open to the general public, especially for the younger generations. Under the theme “Little Fingers, Expert Hands”, this year’s European Artistic Crafts Days (EACD) aim to encourage the general public – especially the younger generations – to participate in workshops with local artisans, thereby helping them to try their hand at the craft and possibly enticing them to explore the various opportunities within the artisan sector. During some of the workshops, the Malta Crafts Foundation also took the opportunity to speak to participants about its participation in the “NEXT – Young NEETs shaping EXpectations for The future of Europe” project, highlighting opportunities within the artisan sector that youths can avail themselves of.
Within the context of World Creativity and Innovation Week, during these days the Malta Crafts Foundation welcomed students from Stella Maris College in Gżira; St Benedict College, Helen Keller Resource Centre in Qrendi; and St Ignatius College, Ħandaq Middle School in Qormi, who got a little creative by participating in pottery workshops held at the Ta’ Qali Artisan Village. Students from the St Ignatius College, Ħandaq Middle School in Qormi – which has now been renamed the St Ignatius College, Prof. Edward de Bono, Tal-Ħandaq Middle School in memory of the late Maltese physician who came up with the term “lateral thinking” and the concept of the “Six Thinking Hats” – took part in a creative workshop held in collaboration between the Malta Crafts Foundation and the Edward Debono Institute for Creative Thinking and Innovation within the University of Malta. During the session, the director of the Institute Dr Margaret Mangion briefed students about the SCAMPER creative thinking tool, which helps its users to structure their thinking in a way that facilitates coming up with innovative product solutions. To give them some practice using the tool the students were introduced to a local weaver, Antoine Vella, who explained the process of weaving and the carpets he makes, even allowing the students to try their hands at the loom. They were then asked to use the SCAMPER tool to come up with new product ideas for the weaver. While at the school, the Malta Crafts Foundation also took the opportunity to speak to students about its participation in the “NEXT – Young NEETs shaping EXpectations for The future of Europe” project, highlighting opportunities within the artisan sector that youths can avail themselves of.
