3rd Transnational Project Meeting
EFFECTS OF THE WAR ONEUROPEAN YOUNG GENERATIONS

The  third Transnational meeting  in presence  is  realised in Daugavpils (Latvia) in October. It is a 4-day meeting,  including  travel  and  involves  all partners.

 

Each  sending  partner  participates with 5 people, 1 or 2 project referents, 1 expert and 2 or 3 young people. The hosting partner involves  at  least  130  people,  among youngsters,  students,  associations  dealing with youth and EU policies,  representatives of local authorities and schools. 

 

The  transnational  event  includes  3  main activities: 


-  a  Thematic  workshop  led  by  an Expert identified by Daugavpils (hosting organization) on the effects of the wars on young people, with the contribution of other countries near Ukraine


-  a Thematic talk involving all participants to discuss on the real status and perception on the topic
 

- Round table meetings involving young people in order to generate a discussion on the main topic and suggest possible solutions to improve the present situation (at least 3 youngsters from the sending organizations and 60 from the hosting
organization)

UN session simulation

Simulation of the UN meeting. Discussion on armed conflicts and migrations and military interventions in the name of humanitarianism.

Controversies surrounding military interventions, such as those in Libya or Syria, and their effects on local communities and regional stability. Should states interfere in independent states for greater reasons? Analysis of the main factors leading to migration, including armed conflicts and human rights violations.

Simulation of the UN meeting. Discussion about human rights in the context of state sovereignty, technologies, privacy and security

The clash between the protection of human rights and national sovereignty is controversial. External intervention in their internal affairs is a violation of sovereignty, while others may point to the need to act in the face of human rights violations. Additionally, the development of technology, including artificial intelligence and monitoring, raises questions about individual privacy and how states can use technology to ensure security without violating civil rights.

Simulation of the UN meeting. Discussion about the responsibility of online platforms, disinformation and propaganda in the age of social media.

The growing importance of social media raises the problem of disinformation, which can influence elections, politics and societies. Regulation of online platforms due to the obligation for technology giants to introduce effective mechanisms to detect and limit disinformation on their platforms.

P4 Byala - OBSHTINA BYALA (VARNA) - Bulgaria

On October 23, 2024, an event titled "The Effects of the War on European Young Generations" was held at the Krea Center in Byala. The event brought together members of the Ukrainian community in the town and an organization specializing in refugee support. The discussion focused on the challenges faced by young people affected by the war—ranging from psychosocial impacts to integration into new societies. Participants shared personal stories and experiences, as well as explored ways to provide support and development opportunities for the affected youth.The event highlighted the importance of collaboration between communities and organizations in building a stronger and more united society.

P5 MUN. LOUSADA - MUNICIPIO DE LOUSADA - Portugal

THEME 3 - Local activitiy - Thematic Talk|Workshop|Parlament

As part of the ‘NEXT: Young NEEts shaping Expectations for The Future of Europe’ project and on the subject of the effects of war on the young European generation, the Portuguese Navy visited the Lousada Oeste School Group to present its missions, but also the training offers, career opportunities and further training available.

The UN (United Nations Organisation) was created at the end of the Second World War to ensure conflict resolution and post-war international cooperation. Founded by 51 member states, today the organisation has 193. United Nations Day is celebrated every year on 24 October and this date was chosen because the United Nations Charter came into force on this date in 1945, when the United Nations was officially formed in San Francisco, California. It has been celebrated since 1948.
United Nations Day is part of UN Week, which runs from 20 to 26 October. The UN's aim is for the day to be dedicated to making the aims and achievements of the organisation known to people all over the world, as well as to gaining support for its work.
António Guterres took office as Secretary-General of the United Nations on 1 January 2017, making him the ninth person to hold this position.
As part of the project ‘NEXT: Young NEEts shaping Expectations for The Future of Europe’ and on the theme of the effects of war on the young European generation, the students prepared texts on the subject and organised declamations.

With the aim of debating the theme ‘Effects of the War on the Young European Generation’, from the project ‘NEXT: Young NEEts shaping Expectations for The Future of Europe’, Agrupamento de Escolas Lousada Oeste brought together students, teachers and other members of the educational community to debate the topic, encouraging and promoting democratic work and respect for the diversity of opinions.

P6 Malta Crafts F.- THE MALTA CRAFTS FOUNDATION – Malta

Meet the Artisans - Annual Mixer - 3rd transnational meeting - local activity 1

The Malta Crafts Foundation organizes monthly visits during which artisans welcome visitors to their workshops and speak about their craft, with the aim of generating awareness especially a. The Meet the Artisans – Annual Mixer invites all participants, including both artisans and the general public who took part in any of the sessions, for a networking session during which they can discuss the challenges and opportunities that the sector faces. The session highlighted key information relating to the Ukrainain community in Malta, the situation from which they came from and collaboration needed to help them to overcome barriers, and in so doing empower youths and build more inclusive communities.

MCF Learns - The Masterclasses: Business Funding - 3rd transnational meeting - local activity 2

This initiative allowed young artisans to learn more about finding funding and support for their business, in order to help them take the step into entrepreneurship. Besides highlighting funding opportunities and support mechanisms, the session spurred on a discussion on the effects of war on youths and young businesses, with some participants highlighting the fact that rising prices for raw materials and imports are a burden on their finances and impinge on their own survival as a business. The session was also streamed online to reach out to as much young people as possible including those coming from war-torn countries and now seeking refuge in Malta.

MCF at MCAST - 3rd transnational meeting - local activity 3

This activity saw the participation of journalism students and - especially in view of the role they might be taking should they pursue journalism as a career – sought to inform them about the the Foundation’s initiatives to promote and support the artisan sector. Students were also briefed about the various opportunities that the sector offers youths who are interested in pursuing a creative career. The Foundation’s participation in the NEXT Project was also mentioned, highlighting key information relating to the situation in participating countries especially with regards to the impact of the ongoing war in neighbouring Ukraine. The students contributed to the discussion, suggesting ways how to build inclusive communities.

P7 LIMASSOL MUNICIPALITY – Cyprus

The two local activities were combined under the topic: ‘Youth Voices – Let's Talk About the Effects of War on European Young Generations & Multicultural Society: Cultural Diversity and Inclusion.’ They were open to the public for individuals aged 18-30 and were presented twice (on January 23rd and 24th) at the Cyprus University of Technology in Limassol, by YM Georgia Christofi and Petros Rousos, with a total of 25 participants. Additionally, the session was presented on January 28th by YM Vasilissa Georgoulopoulou to a group of 25 students at the Cyprus University in Nicosia.
