P6 Malta Crafts F.- THE MALTA CRAFTS FOUNDATION – Malta

MCF Annual mixer - 4th transnational meeting - local activity 1

As part of its annual program the Malta Crafts Foundation invited young artisans to attend a mixer at our offices, to discuss the work carried out during the past year, that planned for the upcoming one. As part of the explanation related to past and future initiatives the CEO discussed Malta’s role in the NEXT project and the learning outcomes of each intervention, particularly focusing on the last meeting dealing with bias and identifying biases. The CEO also explained how the work of the Foundation is first and foremost focusing on removing the bias between the general public and artisanship and also encouraged the inclusion of artisan refugees in the artisan markets.

DesignMT Spatial event - 4th transnational meeting - local activity 2

This initiative allowed young Interior Designers to meet with artisans, in an attempt to remove bias between the two sectors. This match-making activity, which took the form of a ‘speed dating’ exercise allowed for the designers to learn more about what the artisans do and therefore have more knowledge on the types of skills and products that are locally available. The connections aimed to promote artisanal work and to encourage local designers to source locally first when they need work done for the projects.

MCF Learns - 4th transnational meeting - local activity 3

This initiative allowed artisans to explore the possible future of their craft and craft products, and with youths from the University of Breda (Applied Sciences) in the Netherlands, were given an overview of the Malta Crafts Foundation participation in the NEXT Project. Most importantly they were made aware of biases we may carry in our multi-cultural societies, or between different gender groups and other minorities and how this can effect the way they manage their business – the way they interact with people and present their products to them.
